American
Girl Place Columbus
Our Final Visits (December 2023 and February 2024)
American Girl announced that the store would be closing in mid-February 2024. We missed the large group meetup in January, but went to meet up with our friend Mal at the end of December, as well as one last trip at the beginning of February. Sadly, between the two visits, the store cleared out quite a bit...
I was a little too upset to get many pictures this day, as well as having some mobility problems. We do, however, have the group shot taken by Mal's Dad - her family is so awesome!!

The last time we would be seeing this sign. |
A couple of Patsy and Simone's friends were in the store that day - their dollies joined ours for this photo. |

Simone got this awesome photo of the staff dolls behind the register - our Retail/Experience Manager, Sally, did a "bring your doll to work" day once a month for her team, which I think she expanded on until the store closes... |
Feeling at home... | ...one last time... | Do y'all think they'll let me claim this banner? |
Lila's section (and Kavi's) are completely empty except a few Lila dolls available. You can see the displays that have been dismantled |
Kaya, the First American Girl | Nanea... her story being so close to Molly (and my Grandpa, who was also at Pearl Harbor that day) means she will come home someday. |
Go Courtney, Go Courtney, GO! | The twins' bedroom wall is missing (our visual, Natalie, let various staff members take some of her displays home) |
Thanks, girls. Now I want pizza!! |
Was surprised to see Claudie going to bed without Dizzy Dot |
Julie's display seems quite thin... |

...goodbye for the last time |

"You know they say you can't go home again, but I just had to come back one more time... Ma'am, I know you don't know me from Adam - but these handprints on the front steps are mine... If I can walk around, I swear I'll leave, won't take nothing but a memory from the house that built me." This was my home. The employees are my friends. These people took such good care of me when everything hit rock bottom. Now, I'm having to say goodbye. I only hope that someday that someday we can all stand together again, here... in this place where I belong... in the house, er store, that built me. I love you all. (crying emoji) -- from "The House that Built Me" by Miranda Lambert, inspired by my friend Mal's goodbye to her home store; and otherwise adapted from a goodbye letter I gave the staff that day (which I will share with anyone I know worked there, or other dollie friends who know the team, by request.) |

What came home with us: a cake (a gift to us from the team), Molly stickers, Courtney's Strawberry Shortcake PJs and some skirts from her Mix and Match, a Molly tumbler for me and an extra set of pins. Not pictured here was a set of the collaboration doll earrings which belong to Nicole. |
